Bad first DD experience
So the DD scan of my system found a sound card driver update which wound up not only crashing Windows, but making it so Windows would not even boot. Forget the blue screen of death, this was the BLACK screen of death...giving us several panicked hours of thinking I would either need to re-install Windows or get a whole new HD, of which both scenarios meant my losing a ton o' crap. Fortunately, hours later, Windows decided to inexplicably boot up normally.
I know I made mistakes here, and I can also tell DD is a legit and helpful service for most. But Im just saying the driver update DD found for me was anything but helpful...not a good recommendation here, sorry. |

RE: Bad first DD experience
You probably could have just done a system restore which would have rolled back the driver and fixed it?

RE: Bad first DD experience
My screen went to blue....not good and I let the system restore fix it. Scary. It happened several times. At first, I thought it was because I didn't restart my computer when the window told me to. I wanted to get all 14 done at once..
Now I have an issue when I redo the scan to see if anything else is missing, I get the same 14 drivers reappearing! I deleted all of them, after they were installed but they still show up! Any ideas on how to clear them and start anew when I do a scan? |

Why do I sometimes get recommendations for drivers I've already installed? Sometimes Device Doctor can't tell if you have a driver installed or not, or it might have trouble finding the version of the driver you already have installed. This problem usually only occurs with chipset drivers. By default, Device Doctor will recommend the driver anyway in case you don't have it (better safe than sorry). If you have to, make a list of the drivers and versions you already have installed so you don't have to repeat downloads and installations. Installing a driver twice is not dangerous, but is unnecessary. |
