DD not detecting my internet connection
I just found this software through my RSS feeds from addictivetips.com .
I'm running Windows Vista SP2 32-bit . I installed it to the default location; hit the Scan button and waited . It came up with a dialog box stating that it couldn't detect an internet connection, and wanted to know if i wanted to save the results to a file etc ... Obviously I do have an internet connection, else I wouldn't be able to post this message lol I tried on both my wireless and ethernet connection to no avail. Any ideas ? Cheers Doc |

RE: DD not detecting my internet connection
Thanks both for trying us out!
We are looking into this problem, it may be related to other software running that is monitoring the connection (AV or antispyware software). Related question: were you able to export the driver list to a file after DD couldn't detect your Internet connection? Collin |

RE: DD not detecting my internet connection
Cool! The new beta build posted today seems to have fixed this for me. It even has identified an update for my NIC driver!
I'll feedback on this app once I've had more chance to test it. Many thanks so far! |

What do you get for a problem, program not able to detect internet connection, or it can't download the already identified updates available? In either way, try to check both your firewall and antispyware or any security suite type of software on your computer. Device Doctor uses port 80 to connect to the internet (same port as web browsers use), and to download drivers it will pass a download link to your default web browser. Two most obvious problems that could arise in this respect: - firewall (or rarely but possibly an antivirus) blocking Device Doctor from accessing internet (and particularly port 80) - antispyware (or any similar security type of software) preventing Device Doctor from launching your web browser (or passing it a link in case it's running already) |

RE: DD not detecting my internet connection
We have also found a small problem in the error reporting: if you get this error message during the scan, before it reaches 100%, then the problem is likely related to DD having trouble getting a proper scan of your drivers for a reason we haven't yet determined and not related to the connectivity.
We're working on this for the next update, at the least to fix that error message so that it's more descriptive when connectivity is not the problem. |

RE: DD not detecting my internet connection
I got my problem solved, half an hour after posting lol .. Time to update this thread ..
I'm running Vista Home Basic SP2. Right Click on *.exe > run as admin. Worked perfectly .. 'Cept it wasted bandwidth downloading older versions of chipset drivers ... but hey, it did warn me that it might.. At least it came up with the error message tellin' me that it was an older version. Props for that one ! Thanks for takin' my suggestion into consideration ( portable + command line ). Whilst this is still in BETA; is it alright for technicians to use this for commercial purposes for free ? |
