DD won't download
Internet works fine
Download went fine Installation went fine detecting drivers went fine but when I click the "download" button nothing happens. What mechanism does it use to invoke my browser for download (I use opera 10), or is there a way to intercept the url that is used too download the driver, so I can download them manually ? (I admit I'm using a heavily stripped (nlite'd) version of XP on my netbook, but at installation time DD didn't complain) |

RE: DD won't download
Not sure whether either of these could help, but I'd try to:
- check the program rules in your firewall's configuration and grant Device Doctor full internet connection rights - check that you have Opera setup as default web browser, one way is to have Opera setup to check on start up whether it's default, another way is to use Start button in Windows where you have a menu item allowing to setup default programs on your computer I have seen similar problem when people have both IE and another web browser, there is some bug that can be overcome by first setting IE as default web browser, then running Opera and setting it as default web browser, that often helps. |

As I said it's a heavily crippled version of XP for my netbook.. all kinds of stuff is missing (including about all of IE). Strange thing is I installed the same image on my desktop and DD will run there (even without installing it .. I just love portable software). Weird. I have the feeling DD is relying on some library dll or service that is on the desktop, but not on the netbook, but what... |

Ah, that could make sense why it's not working! I've confirmed what happens when you click on the Download link: First, DD will attempt to open the URL through Windows directly, similar to what happens if you typed it into the Run dialog box. If that fails it will go through several registry keys to try and locate the right service to use to launch the URL. I wonder what happens on your machine if you just enter http://www.google.com into the Run dialog box (Windows key + R)? I am not sure if we have a better way to launch URLs on systems like yours... |
