For installation of these updates unpack the archive files, and run the executable, if there is no executable then right-click the file with .inf extension and install, more details can be found in the the FAQ on

Though I think it's highly improbable that these items are part of the problem. I'd suggest to check Apple support on http://support.apple.com they have detailed support documents for thes types of issues, and their discussion forum https://discussions.apple.com/, those are the best places for more information.
I don't know about DD users but I was assisting some users with similar issues elsewhere and problems were usually due to iTunes software, so that might be worth a check as well.
